Contribution rules
Ontario's 2026 municipal election rules state that a candidate may accept contributions only from individuals who are residents of Ontario. Corporations and trade unions are not permitted to contribute.
- Maximum contribution to a single candidate: $1,200.
- Maximum total to candidates running for offices on the same council: $5,000.
- Only contributions of $25 or less may be made in cash.
- Campaigns must issue receipts and maintain contribution records.
